Details
De Wain Valentine was born in Fort Collins, Colorado, but spent much of his life in Hawaii and along the Southern California coast near Los Angeles. Inspired by the ocean waves, striated skies of the setting sun, and LA smog, Valentine sought to transform a piece of the atmosphere or water into physical form. He created multiple shaped polyester resin forms that provide a colorful and translucent backdrop, reflecting light and inspiring transcendence.

Valentine only created four 8-foot polyester resin circles, of which one was destroyed. One other remaining 8-foot circle, Red Concave Circle, was donated to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's (LACMA) permanent collection by the Bank of America Corporation in celebration of the museum's 50th anniversary, directly after it was exhibited at The Getty, Pacific Standard Time, from October 2011 to March 2012.
